Exploring Mundingburra's Location
Mundingburra is mostly a place where people live. It sits right next to the Ross River. Another suburb called Aitkenvale is right next door.
A special structure called Aplin's Weir crosses the Ross River. It connects Mundingburra with the suburb of Annandale.
Two main roads help people get around. Ross River Road goes through the suburb from east to west. Townsville Connection Road runs along part of its eastern edge.
The area is also known for the Electoral district of Mundingburra, which is a government area named after the suburb itself.

Early Schools in Mundingburra
The first school, Mundingburra State School, opened its doors on 22 September 1884. It has been teaching students for a very long time.
St Anne’s Church of England Girls’ School started on 1 January 1917. It began with 71 students in the Townsville CBD. This school was run by a group called the Society of the Sacred Advent.
During World War II, from 1942 to 1945, there was a fear of invasion. The school moved to Ravenswood for safety. The Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force used the school buildings in Townsville during this time.
The Cathedral School's Journey
In 1953, St Anne's needed more space. They bought a large piece of land in Mundingburra. The foundation stone for the new school was laid in 1956.
The new Mundingburra campus officially opened on 13 April 1958. The school moved to its new home at the end of August 1958.
In 1978, the Sisters of the Sacred Advent handed over control. The Anglican Diocese of Townsville took over. They appointed Neil Tucker as the first principal who was not a nun or a priest.
In 1980, the school started accepting both boys and girls. To show this change, it was renamed The Cathedral School of St Anne & St James. St James is the name of Townsville's Anglican cathedral.
The Cathedral School celebrated its 100th birthday in 2017.
St Joseph's Catholic School History
St Joseph's Catholic School began in 1924. It was first located in Hermit Park. The Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart started this school.
In 1936, the school moved to its current location in Mundingburra. The Sisters stopped running the school at the end of 1991. Now, regular teachers and staff run it.
Special Schools in the Area
Mundingburra South Special School opened in 1981. It closed a few years later, on 12 December 1986.
Mundingburra Special School opened on 27 January 1987. It closed in December 2001. However, it reopened in January 2002 as the Townsville Community Learning Centre. This new center combined with Aitkenvale Special School.
