Giuseppe Caruso (born October 12, 1934 – died March 7, 2019), known to many as Pino Caruso, was a famous Italian actor, writer, and TV personality. He was well-loved for his roles in movies and TV shows, and for his witty writings.

A Life on Stage and Screen

Pino Caruso was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. He started his acting career on stage in his hometown in 1957. He was a "dramatic stage actor," meaning he performed serious plays in theaters.

In 1965, he moved to Rome and joined a theater group called "Il Bagaglino". He became very popular by appearing in many RAI variety shows. These were popular TV programs that featured different kinds of entertainment, like comedy sketches, music, and interviews. Some of his popular shows included Che domenica amici (1968), Gli amici della domenica (1970), and Teatro 10 (1971).

Leading the Actors' Union

From 1979 to 1989, Pino Caruso was the president of the Italian Actors Union. This is an organization that represents actors and works to protect their rights and interests.

Cultural Events in Palermo

Between 1995 and 1997, the Mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando, asked Caruso to plan and direct a special event called Palermo in scena. This was a two-month festival (from July 14 to September 14) that featured many artistic and theatrical performances. In 2001, he was asked to organize the festival again.

A Talented Writer

Pino Caruso also wrote regularly for newspapers and magazines starting in 1976. He was a columnist for several daily newspapers, sharing his thoughts and opinions. He also wrote many books on different topics.
