Pinto is a small, historic community located in Washington County, Utah, United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community," which means it's a place where people live but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
Where is Pinto?
Pinto is found in the southwestern part of Utah. It sits at an elevation of about 6,060 feet (1,847 meters) above sea level. This makes it a high-altitude spot with unique natural surroundings.
How Pinto Started
Pinto was established in 1856. It was founded by Rufus C. Allen and other leaders of the LDS Southern Indian Mission. They decided to move from another place called Fort Harmony, Utah. They wanted to create a new settlement where they could have more control over their own community. This move was partly because of issues with John D. Lee, who was trying to take too much authority at Fort Harmony.
