Pirámide is a tall mountain in the Andes mountain range in Peru. Its name means "pyramid" in Spanish, because of its shape. People also call it Pirámide de Garcilaso.
This mountain is about 5,885 meters (19,308 feet) high. You can find it in the Ancash Region of Peru. Pirámide is located inside the Huascarán National Park. It sits near Lake Parón, which is a beautiful lake in the mountains.
Climbing Pirámide
Climbing Pirámide is very challenging. It's not a mountain for beginners. The most common way to climb it is called the normal route. This route goes up the northwest side of the mountain.
Climbers usually set up a camp near Lake Parón. From there, they climb across a glacier. Then, they reach the base of the mountain face. The climb involves going up steep ice and snow. It takes a full day to go up and down this part for experienced climbers.
Years ago, Pirámide was known as an extremely difficult mountain. But today, with better climbing tools and techniques, it has become a bit easier for skilled climbers.
There are other ways to climb Pirámide, but they are very hard and not often used:
- Southwest face: This route was first climbed in 1979. It involves climbing very steep snow and ice. It can take many hours to complete this climb.
- West ridge: This is a very tough route that takes about three days. It involves climbing directly up a ridge, which can be dangerous.
