What's in a Name?
The name Pirwata comes from two local languages: Aymara and Quechua. In these languages, pirwa means "granary" or "deposit." A granary is a special building where people store grain, like corn or wheat. The -ta part is a common ending in these languages. So, the name might suggest that the mountain or an area near it was once used for storage.
Where is Pirwata Located?
Pirwata is found in the Cochabamba Department of Bolivia. This department is a part of the central Andes mountains. The mountain sits right on the border between two areas:
- The Ayopaya Province, specifically in the Morochata Municipality.
- The Quillacollo Province, in the Quillacollo Municipality.
