Starting in Italy
The story of Pizzaiolo began in the early 1940s. It started in a small town called Montorio nei Frentani in Italy. A couple named Nonno Giuseppe and Nonna Ida opened a small pizzeria there.
The name "Pizzaiolo" comes from an Italian word. It means "pizza maker."
Moving to Canada
In the 1960s, the family moved to Toronto, Canada. "Mama Anna" and "Papa Antonio" continued the family tradition. They opened their first full restaurant in 1967. This was the start of the Pizzaiolo chain we know today.
Pizzaiolo Today
Today, Pizzaiolo has grown quite a bit. There are now 43 locations. All of these restaurants are in the Greater Toronto Area.
