The Pizzey Memorial Clock is a special clock that remembers a man named Jack Pizzey. It was first located in Childers, Queensland, Australia. This clock was once listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. This means it was considered an important historical item. However, it was moved and rebuilt in 2015. Because of this, it was taken off the heritage list. Now, you can find it at the Childers Historical Village.

What is the Pizzey Memorial Clock?

Remembering Jack Pizzey

The Pizzey Memorial Clock was built to honor Jack Pizzey. He was an important person in Queensland. Jack Pizzey was the Premier of Queensland. This means he was like the leader of the state government. He served as Premier from January 1968 until he passed away in July 1968.

Jack Pizzey was born in Childers. He also represented the local area in the government. He was the Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Isis area.

Moving the Clock

Around the years 2000 and 2001, the local council made a decision. The Isis Shire Council wanted to improve Churchill Street. They planned to create a new area called Millennium Park. This park would feature a monument to the Kanaka workers. These workers were from Pacific Islands and played a big role in Queensland's history.

Because of these plans, the Pizzey Memorial Clock needed a new home. It was moved from Churchill Street. The clock was carefully relocated to the Childers Historical Village. This village is located on Taylor Street.

Why Was It Heritage Listed?

Its Historical Importance

The Pizzey Memorial Clock was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on August 21, 1992. Being on this register meant it was important for showing how Queensland's history developed. It was seen as a significant part of the state's past.

Why It Was Removed

However, the clock was later moved and rebuilt. This change meant it was no longer in its original spot or form. Because of its relocation and reconstruction, it was decided that it no longer met the rules for being on the heritage register. So, in June 2015, it was removed from the list.
