Plainview is a small, quiet place in Meade County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council, as a town or city would.

History of Plainview

Plainview was first planned out in 1907. People chose the name "Plainview" because you could see a very clear and open view of the land from this spot.

A post office opened in Plainview in 1908. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years, until it closed in 1972. Today, Plainview is a very small community. It is not listed separately in the official US population counts anymore.
