A Stop on Historic Route 66

A Look Back in Time

Plano once had its own post office. It opened in 1895, which was a long time ago! People could send and receive mail right there in their community. However, the post office closed just a few years later, in 1903.

Where Did the Name Come From?

Historians believe that the name "Plano" might have come from Plano, Texas. It was common for new communities to be named after places people knew or admired.

What Remains of Plano Today?

Today, very little of the original community of Plano remains. It is often considered a "ghost town" because most of its old buildings and businesses are gone. Even though it's mostly gone, Plano still holds a small piece of Missouri's history, especially its connection to the legendary Route 66.
