Platoro is a small, unincorporated community located in Conejos County, in the U.S. state of Colorado. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a town or city. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.

History of Platoro

The name Platoro comes from the Spanish words "plata" and "oro," which mean "silver" and "gold." This name hints at the area's past, likely connected to mining. A post office was set up in Platoro in 1888. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office closed down in 1919.
