History of Platoro
The name Platoro comes from the Spanish words "plata" and "oro," which mean "silver" and "gold." This name hints at the area's past, likely connected to mining. A post office was set up in Platoro in 1888. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office closed down in 1919.
