Plaza de Armas, San Juan facts for kids
The Plaza de Armas of San Juan is one of the main squares in San Juan, the capital city of Puerto Rico. It is located on San José Street in Old San Juan. This square was designed to be the original main gathering place for the city. The San Juan City Hall is located to the north of the square. The Puerto Rico Department of State building is on the west side.
The most important part of the square is a round fountain. This fountain has four beautiful marble statues. These statues represent "The Four Seasons": Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. They were first ordered in 1856 to be placed in another area called Paseo La Princesa in Old San Juan. Later, they found their home in the Plaza de Armas.
