The Plaza de Toros de Valencia (also known as Plaça de Bous de València in Valencian) is a famous historical building in Valencia, Spain. It is a large, round arena that was built a long time ago. This impressive building was constructed between 1850 and 1859.
Its design was inspired by ancient Roman buildings. Think of famous structures like the Colosseum in Rome! The architect, Sebastián Monleón Estellés, created a unique building. It has 48 sides and 384 arches on the outside.
About the Building
When the Plaza de Toros was first built, it was outside the main city walls. The architect, Sebastián Monleón Estellés, designed it to be 17.50 meters tall. It originally had an inside diameter of 52 meters.
This building was one of the first to use cast iron columns. These columns made the viewing boxes very open and clear. With an outside diameter of 108 meters, it is one of the largest arenas in Spain. It could hold many people, originally seating over 16,000 spectators. Later, the number of seats was changed to about 12,000.
The Plaza de Toros officially opened on June 20, 1859. It has been owned by the Hospital General de Valencia since 1625. Today, it is managed by the Provincial Council of Valencia and a company called Simón Casas Productions.
