Pleasantville is a small, quiet place in Indiana. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's not a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Jefferson Township in Sullivan County.

Pleasantville is also part of the larger Terre Haute area. This area is sometimes called the Metropolitan Statistical Area.

A Look Back in Time: Pleasantville's History

Pleasantville has a bit of history. A special building called a post office opened here in 1865. People used it to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed its doors in 1964.

Learning and Sports in Pleasantville

Pleasantville once had its own high school. This school was built in 1916. It helped educate many students for almost 50 years. However, the high school closed in 1965. Its students then joined Union High School in nearby Dugger.

Even though the high school is gone, a part of it is still used today. The high school gym was built in 1954. It's a popular spot for the community. In the 2014–15 school year, the gym even hosted a basketball game for the Union High School team. For that game, the Union team wore special uniforms. They looked just like the old Pleasantville Blue Streak team!
