The Plott Hound is a medium-sized dog breed. These dogs usually stand about 20 to 25 inches (51-61 cm) tall. They weigh around 45 to 55 pounds (20-25 kg). Plott Hounds are strong and have good muscles.

They have a smooth, shiny double coat. Their fur can be any shade of brown, black, or tan. Often, their coat has a striped pattern. Many Plott Hounds also have a white patch on their chest. They have a flat head with a long nose. Their ears are wide and medium in length.

Where Did Plott Hounds Come From?

The early types of these hounds came from Germany. People there used them for hunting wild boar.

In 1750, two brothers named Plott left Germany. They moved to America. They brought five of these wild boar hounds with them. One brother, George Plott, settled in North Carolina. He bred his hounds with Bloodhounds and other mixed-breed dogs. This new dog breed became known as the Plott Hound.

How to Groom a Plott Hound

Plott Hounds tend to eat their food very quickly. If they eat too fast, their stomach might twist. This is a serious problem called gastric torsion. It can be life-threatening.

Plott Hounds are generally a healthy breed. They usually live for about 10 to 14 years. These dogs are very active and need a lot of physical exercise. Regular playtime and walks help them stay healthy and happy.
