History of Pocono Manor
How Pocono Manor Started
The Pocono Manor resort community began in 1902. It was designed as a place for people to relax and have fun. The resort included a large inn, places for activities, and a group of small cottages.
The Cottage Community
The cottages were first built by a group called the Quakers. These homes show off popular building styles from the early 1900s. You can see styles like Stick/Eastlake, Shingle Style, and Bungalow/American Craftsman.
The Pocono Manor Inn
The main building, the Pocono Manor Inn, was built in several parts. Construction happened between 1902 and 1949. The first seven sections were built from 1902 to 1926. A famous architect from Philadelphia, Walter Smedley, designed these early parts.
Becoming a Historic Place
This entire historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. This means it is a special place recognized for its history.
The Inn's Fire
Sadly, the Inn at Pocono Manor caught fire on November 2, 2019. Strong winds made the fire spread quickly. The exact reason for the fire is still unknown.
