Kristy Marlana Wallace (born February 20, 1953), known as Poison Ivy or Poison Ivy Rorschach, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer. She is best known for co-founding the famous rock band The Cramps.

Early Life

Kristy Wallace was born in San Bernardino, California. She grew up near Sacramento. In 1972, while studying at Sacramento State College, Kristy met Lux Interior. He would later become the lead singer of The Cramps.

Music Career

In 1974, Kristy and Lux moved to New York City. In 1976, they started their band, The Cramps. This was during the rise of punk rock music. The band quickly became known for their unique sound. Their music was inspired by rockabilly, a style of early rock and roll. They also became famous for their exciting live shows.

The Cramps, with Poison Ivy and Lux Interior, released many records. They also performed live until 2006. The band became very popular, especially in Europe. They gained a strong group of dedicated fans around the world.

Throughout The Cramps' career, Poison Ivy was very important. She co-wrote all of the band's original songs with Lux Interior. She also helped arrange the music for songs they covered. Poison Ivy produced or co-produced several of their albums. She even sang on a few songs, like "Kizmiaz." On later records, she played the theremin, an electronic musical instrument.

Guitars and Gear

Poison Ivy used different guitars during her career. Early on, she played a clear plexiglass Dan Armstrong guitar. She also used a special Canadian-made Bill Lewis guitar. You can hear this guitar on The Cramps' first recordings.

From 1985 onwards, she mostly used a 1958 Gretsch 6120 hollow-body guitar. For her sound on stage, she used Fender Pro Reverb amplifiers. In the studio, she preferred smaller Valco and Allen amps.

Personal Life

Poison Ivy and Lux Interior were married for 37 years. Lux passed away on February 4, 2009. Poison Ivy now lives in Glendale, California.
