Politburo of the Communist Party of China facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Central Politburo of the Communist Party of China is a small, powerful group of 25 people. They help lead and guide the Communist Party of China. Think of them as a top committee that makes important decisions.

Their official name is the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Before 1927, this group was called the Central Bureau.

Unlike similar groups in other Communist parties, most of the power within the Politburo is held by an even smaller group called the Politburo Standing Committee. This means that a few people at the very top make the most important choices.

The members of the Politburo are chosen by the Central Committee. This is a larger group within the Party.

The Politburo has a lot of power because its members often also hold important jobs in the government of the People's Republic of China. They also choose people for other high-level positions. The topics they discuss in their meetings are usually decided by the General Secretary. When they make decisions, they try to reach an agreement where everyone supports the choice, rather than just voting. This is called making decisions by consensus.
