Pomabamba is a town located in the Ancash Region of Peru. Its name comes from the Quechua language, where Pumapampa means "cougar plain." This interesting name gives us a hint about the wildlife that might have once roamed this area! Pomabamba is part of the Pomabamba Province and the Pomabamba District.
Climate: What's the Weather Like?
Pomabamba is located high up in the mountains, about 2,950 meters (that's over 9,600 feet!) above sea level. This high elevation means the weather is generally mild, but it does have distinct wet and dry seasons.
The warmest months are usually from May to November, with average high temperatures around 21-22 degrees Celsius (about 70-72 degrees Fahrenheit). The coolest months are January to March, with highs around 20-21 degrees Celsius.
Nighttime temperatures are much cooler, especially from June to August, when they can drop to around 4 degrees Celsius (about 39 degrees Fahrenheit). The wettest months are from December to April, with a lot of rain. The driest months are June, July, and August, when there's very little rain.
This weather pattern is typical for places in the Andes mountains, where you have a rainy season and a dry season.
