Poo-Chi was a super popular robot dog toy. It was one of the very first "robopet" toys ever made! Samuel James Lloyd and Matt Lucas designed this cool robot. Sega Toys made Poo-Chi, and Tiger Toys helped sell it around the world. Poo-Chi first came out in the year 2000. It was stopped being made in 2002.

Meet Poo-Chi: Your Robot Dog Friend!

Poo-Chi was a fun robot dog. It was one of the first robot pets. It could stand up or lie down. Poo-Chi was designed to be a playful companion.

What Did Poo-Chi Look Like?

The first Poo-Chi toys were mostly gray. Their ears, tail, and leg joints came in bright colors. These colors included purple, blue, pink, or green. Poo-Chi had four legs, just like a real dog. Its eyes were special red LED lights. These lights helped show what Poo-Chi was "feeling" or doing.

Poo-Chi's Special Editions

There was a special Christmas Poo-Chi! It was only sold for a short time. This festive version was red and white. It had cool snowflake designs all over its body and ears. The Christmas Poo-Chi also came with a special bone toy. This version played Christmas songs, which was a fun update. It was quite rare because it was only available for a few months.

How Poo-Chi "Talked"

Poo-Chi "spoke" using sounds like barks, whines, and growls. Because of the technology back then, most of its sounds were simple beeps. It wasn't like a real dog's bark. Poo-Chi could also "bark" songs. You could make it sing by pressing the button on top of its head.

Other Robot Friends

Poo-Chi was so popular that other robot pets were made! These were called "spin-offs." They were based on different animals. The Super Poo-Chi was just a bigger version of the original dog.

Here are some of the other robot friends:

  • Meow-Chi - This was a robotic cat.
  • Super Poo-Chi - A much larger version of the original Poo-Chi toy.
  • Dino-Chi - A robotic dinosaur. There were two types: a Dino-Chi T. Rex and a Dino-Chi Pterodactyl.
  • Chirpy-Chi - A cute robotic bird.
  • Petal-Chi - This was a robotic flower or plant.
  • Robo-Baby - A robotic baby toy.
  • Botster - A regular robot friend.

Poo-Chi's Songs

Poo-Chi could "sing" one of six different songs. To make it sing, you had to activate the light sensor in its nose. Then, you pressed the touch sensor on its head. The toy would make a series of high-pitched beeps. You could press the touch sensor a certain number of times to choose a song.

Here are the songs Poo-Chi could play:

Number of sensor presses Song title
1 The Wedding March
2 Camptown Races
3 Bingo
4 I've Been Working on the Railroad/Home On the Range
5 Beethoven No.9
6 When the Saints Come Marching In

Poo-Chi often sang "Ode to Joy" by Ludwig van Beethoven when it was happy. If another Poo-Chi or a different Robo-Chi pet (like a Meow-Chi) was nearby, they might start singing "Ode to Joy" too!
