Pop Girl was a fun TV channel in the United Kingdom made just for girls aged 7 to 12. It was a free-to-air channel, which means you didn't have to pay extra to watch it. You could find Pop Girl on Sky and Freesat. The channel showed lots of different things, like cool cartoons, exciting live-action shows, and popular music videos.
The channel started broadcasting on 6 August 2007. It was first owned by a company called CSC Media Group. Later, it became part of Sony Pictures Television. When Pop Girl first started, it shared its broadcast time. It was on from 6 AM until 9 PM. After 9 PM, another channel called AnimeCentral would take over. This helped them use the TV space more efficiently. Later, Pop Girl's hours got longer, staying on until 11:30 PM. This allowed AnimeCentral to broadcast all day and night.
What Was on Pop Girl?
Pop Girl had a wide variety of shows that girls loved. These included animated series and shows with real actors. Many of the programmes were chosen to be fun and interesting for its target audience.
Little Miss Pop Girl Block
From 12 May 2008, Pop Girl introduced a special section called "Little Miss Pop Girl." This block of shows was on every weekday morning, from 9 AM to 12 PM, during school terms. It was made for even younger girls. During this time, you could watch cartoons like Lazy Lucy, Pippi Longstocking, Strawberry Shortcake, and Horseland. Some of these shows were also seen on Tiny Pop, another channel for younger kids. The "Little Miss Pop Girl" block did not run on weekends or during school holidays.
Pop Girl +1 Channel
On 4 June 2008, Pop Girl launched a sister channel called Pop Girl +1. This channel showed the same programmes as Pop Girl, but one hour later. It was a handy way to catch a show if you missed it on the main channel. Pop Girl +1 replaced another channel called Flaunt +1. However, Pop Girl +1 didn't last forever. On 22 July 2013, it was replaced by a new channel called Kix Power.
Why Pop Girl Closed
Pop Girl stopped broadcasting on 1 October 2015, at 6 AM. The space it used on TV was then taken over by a new channel called Kix +1. After Pop Girl closed, some of its popular shows moved to other channels in the same TV family. For example, H2O: Just Add Water started showing on the POP channel.
Even though the TV channel closed, the popgirl.tv website stayed online for a while. It still offered games, videos, and quizzes. There was a message saying the website would be updated to become an online service. Later, the Pop Girl website was redirected to the main POP channel's website, where you could still find some Pop Girl content.
