Pop Idol was a popular British television show. It first aired on ITV on October 5, 2001. The show was a singing competition. Its goal was to find the best new young pop singer in the United Kingdom. Viewers voted to choose their favorite singers.

There were two seasons of Pop Idol. The first season ran from October 2001 to February 2002. Will Young won this season, and Gareth Gates was the second-place finisher. The second season was in 2003. Michelle McManus won that season.

What Was Pop Idol?
