Early Life and Election
Leo VI was born in Rome, which was part of the Papal States at the time. His birth name was Leo Sanguini, and he was believed to be a member of the Sanguini family.
Before he became Pope, Leo VI was a cardinal-priest. This means he was a high-ranking priest in charge of the church of Santa Susanna in Rome. He was chosen to be Pope in June 928.

Pope Leo VI's time as Pope was very short. He served for less than a year. During this period, the Popes had less power than in other times in history.
Death and Burial
Pope Leo VI died in February 929, still in Rome. He was buried in St. Peter's Basilica, a very famous and important church in Rome. After his death, Pope Stephen VII became the next Pope.
