Pore is a special town and a municipality (like a county) in the Casanare Department of Colombia. It's known for its important role in Colombia's history.

Pore played a big part in Colombia's fight for independence. Because of its historical importance, it was named a Pueblo Patrimonio de Colombia (Heritage Town of Colombia) on March 1, 2021. This means it's recognized as a place with a rich history and culture. It's the first town east of the Andes mountains to get this special title!

A Look Back: Pore's History

How Pore Began

Pore was founded a long time ago, on November 5, 1644. Two people named Adriano Vargas and Francisco Enciso started the town.

Early Growth and Economy

In the same century, a group called the Jesuits helped organize large farms. These farms focused on raising cattle. This helped Pore's economy grow a lot. The town also traded with places like Venezuela and Tunja.

Pore as a Capital

Because of its strong economy and trade, Pore became very important. It was even named the capital of the province of Nueva Granada in 1818. This happened during a time when Colombia was fighting for its freedom.

Role in Independence

Pore was a key meeting point during the independence movement. The troops of Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Paula Santander met here. From Pore, they marched together towards the Boyacá bridge. This is where they won a very important battle for Colombia's freedom.

A National Treasure

Pore's historical value is officially recognized. On December 30, 2004, a special law (Law 936) declared Pore a historical and cultural heritage of the nation. This means it's a protected site because of its deep roots in Colombian history.
