Port Mòr facts for kids
Port Mòr is a small, friendly village and a busy harbour on the Isle of Muck. This island is part of the Inner Hebrides, a group of islands off the west coast of Scotland. Port Mòr is like the main hub of the island, where most of the islanders live and where visitors arrive.
Discovering Port Mòr
Port Mòr is the biggest village on the Isle of Muck, even though it's quite small! As of October 2018, about fifteen people call Port Mòr home. It's a peaceful place where everyone knows each other. The village is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, making it a special spot to live or visit.
Getting to Port Mòr
Getting to Port Mòr is an adventure! In 2005, a special pier and a causeway were built here. A pier is like a long walkway built out into the water, allowing boats to dock safely. A causeway is a raised road or path across water or wet ground. These structures were very important because they made it possible for the ferry to easily reach the island. The ferry is the main way people and supplies get to and from the Isle of Muck.
A Place to Stay
Port Mòr is also home to the very first hotel on the Isle of Muck. This hotel was built by a man named Ewen MacEwen. His family has a long history with the island, owning land on Muck for over 100 years! The hotel provides a cozy place for visitors to stay and experience island life.
