The Port of Motril is a very important port located in Motril, a city in southern Spain. It handles both passengers and cargo. This port is one of Spain's "ports of General Interest of the State," which means it's a big, important port for the whole country.
History of the Port

Building the Port of Motril began a long time ago. The first stone was laid on October 21, 1908. The port was finally finished and ready to use in 1927.
Later, in 1994, a special dock was opened. This dock was designed to handle bulk cargo. Bulk cargo means things like grains, minerals, or liquids that are transported in large amounts without being packaged.
On October 1, 2005, the Port of Motril got its own special management team. This team is called the Port Authority of Motril. It helps run the port smoothly. Two years later, in 2007, a new part of the port called the Azucenas dock was opened. This new dock has special features for ro-ro ships. Ro-ro stands for "roll-on/roll-off," which means vehicles like cars and trucks can drive directly onto and off the ship.
What the Port Does Today
The Port of Motril is a busy hub for travel and trade. Many ferries connect Motril to cities across the sea. You can take a ferry from Motril to places like Nador, Melilla, Al-Hoceima, and Tanger-Med. These connections are important for people traveling and for moving goods between Spain and North Africa.
In 2019, the port handled a huge amount of cargo. About 2.8 million tonnes of goods passed through the Port of Motril that year. This shows how important the port is for moving products and supporting trade.
