Portal is a small, unincorporated community located in Sarpy County, Nebraska, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county it's in.
History of Portal
Portal was first established because of the railroad. In the late 1800s, railroads were super important for travel and moving goods. New communities often grew up around railroad stops.
A post office opened in Portal in 1887. This was a big deal because it meant people living there could send and receive mail. It helped connect the community to the rest of the country. The post office stayed open for about 11 years, closing in 1898.
