Portersville is a small community in Indiana, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it does not have its own local government. Portersville is located in Boone Township, within Dubois County.
History of Portersville
Portersville was started as a town around the year 1818. Many people say it is the oldest town in Dubois County. For a short time, Portersville was even chosen to be the county seat of Dubois County. A county seat is the main town where the county government offices are located. Later, the county seat was moved to Jasper.
A post office opened in Portersville in 1821. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. It stayed open until it was closed down in 1909.
