Potomac, West Virginia facts for kids
Potomac is a small, unincorporated community located in Ohio County, West Virginia, in the United States state of West Virginia. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
History of Potomac, West Virginia
The community of Potomac got its name from a post office that was set up there in 1872. This post office helped people send and receive mail for about 30 years, closing down in 1902. Even though the name "Potomac" might make you think of the famous Potomac River, this community is actually not located near that river at all. It's a common misconception, but the community simply shares a name with the well-known river.
