In the 1930s, old maps of the county showed Powell Point as a small community. It had a church and just a few homes. This tells us it was a quiet, rural area.

Even in the early 1990s, maps still marked the location of a church and a cemetery in Powell Point. This suggests that the community remained small and kept some of its original features over many years.

The Original Powell Point School
The first Powell Point School was moved from Kendleton in the 1890s. It was placed in a nearby settlement. The school got its name because it was built on land that once belonged to Elizabeth Powell. Maps from the 1930s and early 1990s still showed this school, even after it became part of the Kendleton Independent School District (KISD).
Today's School System
Today, students in Powell Point attend schools within the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD). This district serves many communities in the area.
