Early Life and Start in Wrestling
William Hobson grew up in East Palo Alto, California. He went to Sequoia High School where he played football and other sports. As a kid, he loved watching professional wrestling shows.
Training and First Matches
After high school, William Hobson went to a wrestling school called All Pro Wrestling (APW). He had his first wrestling match on July 18, 2009. He used the name "Will Rood" back then.
For about ten years, he wrestled a lot for APW. He won the APW Worldwide Internet Championship three times. He also won the APW Tag Team Championship three times with his tag team partner, Marcus Lewis. They were known as "Lion Power." Over time, he changed his wrestling name a few times, eventually becoming "Will Hobbs."
He also wrestled for other independent wrestling companies. In 2016, he even had one match for WWE, where he wrestled against Baron Corbin.
Joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW)
In July 2020, William Hobson started wrestling for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He appeared on their online show, AEW Dark.
Making a Big Impression
At a big AEW event called All Out in September 2020, Hobbs competed in a special match. His performance impressed the head of AEW, Tony Khan, and he was offered a contract to join the company full-time.
Soon after, he helped AEW World Champion Jon Moxley during an attack. But later that year, he surprised everyone by joining a group called Team Taz. This group included Taz, Brian Cage, and Ricky Starks. When he joined them, his wrestling name was changed to "Powerhouse Hobbs."
Adventures with Team Taz
In 2021, Powerhouse Hobbs had many wins in singles and tag team matches. He helped his teammate Ricky Starks win a championship. Hobbs also had a big match against CM Punk, which was Punk's first TV match in many years.
In 2022, Hobbs continued to wrestle with Team Taz. He often teamed up with Ricky Starks. However, in July 2022, Hobbs turned on Starks after Starks lost a championship. This led to Team Taz breaking up. Hobbs and Starks then had a big rivalry, wrestling each other in several matches.
Chasing Championships
After Team Taz, Powerhouse Hobbs started to chase big championships. In November 2022, he wrestled for the AEW TNT Championship but didn't win it.
In March 2023, Hobbs won a special ladder match, which gave him another chance at the TNT Championship. He defeated Wardlow to win the title! He then joined a group called "QTV." However, Wardlow later defeated Hobbs to win the TNT Championship back. Hobbs left QTV in July 2023.
New Alliances and Challenges
In late 2023, Powerhouse Hobbs joined a new group called the Don Callis Family. He teamed up with other wrestlers from this group in big matches. He also challenged Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in April 2024, but he got a knee injury during the match and needed surgery.
Hobbs returned to wrestling in November 2024. He left the Don Callis Family and started wrestling as a fan favorite. He challenged for the AEW International Championship but didn't win. In January 2025, he won a special match to earn a shot at the AEW World Championship, but he couldn't win that title either. After this, he started a rivalry with Big Bill.
Becoming a Trios Champion with The Opps
In April 2025, Powerhouse Hobbs joined Katsuyori Shibata and Samoa Joe to form a new group called The Opps. They won the AEW World Trios Championship, making Hobbs a current champion!
