Early Life and Start in Wrestling
William Hobson grew up in East Palo Alto, California. He went to Sequoia High School. There, he played football and other sports. When he was young, he loved watching professional wrestling. He even went to live wrestling shows.
After high school, William went to a wrestling school called All Pro Wrestling (APW). He had his first professional wrestling match on July 18, 2009. His first ring name was "Will Rood."
Wrestling on the Independent Circuit
For about ten years, William wrestled for APW. He won the APW Worldwide Internet Championship three times. He also won the APW Tag Team Championship three times with his tag team partner, Marcus Lewis. They were called "Lion Power."
During this time, he used different ring names. For a short while in 2014, he was "Will.I.IS." In 2016, he changed his name to "Will Hobbs." He also wrestled for many other smaller wrestling companies. These companies are part of what's called the "independent circuit." He won more championships with these groups too.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Career
In July 2020, Will Hobbs started wrestling for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He first appeared on their YouTube show, AEW Dark.
Joining Team Taz
In September 2020, Hobbs competed in a big match called the Casino Battle Royale. His performance impressed the AEW president, Tony Khan. Soon after, Hobbs signed a contract with AEW.
Later that year, Hobbs joined a wrestling group called Team Taz. This group included Taz, Brian Cage, and Ricky Starks. When he joined them, he became a "heel" (a bad guy in wrestling). His ring name was then changed to "Powerhouse Hobbs."
Throughout 2021, Powerhouse Hobbs had many wins. He helped his teammate Ricky Starks win the FTW Championship. He also had a big match against CM Punk, which was Punk's first TV match in many years.
New Alliances: QTV and Don Callis Family
In March 2023, Powerhouse Hobbs won a special ladder match. This win gave him a chance to challenge for the TNT Championship. He then defeated Wardlow to win the AEW TNT Championship. He joined a new group called "QTV" with Q. T. Marshall. However, he lost the title back to Wardlow a month later.
In July 2023, Hobbs left QTV. A few months later, he joined another group called the Don Callis Family. This group included wrestlers like Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher. They had many big tag team matches against other famous wrestlers.
Chasing Championships
In November 2024, Powerhouse Hobbs returned from a knee injury. He left the Don Callis Family and teamed up with Ricochet. He continued to challenge for championships. In December 2024, he tried to win the AEW International Championship but didn't succeed. In January 2025, he won a match to earn a shot at the AEW World Championship, but he couldn't win that title either.
