History of All Pro Wrestling
All Pro Wrestling first opened in 1991. Back then, it was called "Pacific Coast Sports." The wrestling school and its "Gym Wars" events were very popular locally. This was especially true throughout the 1990s. APW became well-known across the country during the "Attitude Era" of professional wrestling.
In 1999, All Pro Wrestling was shown in a movie called Beyond the Mat. Roland Alexander and two wrestlers, Tony Jones and Michael Modest, appeared in the film. They were trying out for the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). Being in the movie helped many more people sign up for APW's "Boot Camp" training.
APW faced a difficult situation involving a trainee named Brian Ong. In 2001, Brian was training with another wrestler, Dalip Singh. Brian had already suffered a head injury. During training, he was hurt again and sadly passed away. Brian's family later took legal action against APW. The case went to court in 2005. After a trial, the jury decided that APW had to pay money to Brian's family.
After some disagreements in 2002, many people left APW. This included trainers like Michael Modest and Donovan Morgan. They started their own training place. Later, in 2008, a person named Gabriel Ramirez also left to start his own wrestling company. John LaRocca then took over as the main person planning the shows for APW.
In October 2005, a wrestler who would later become a big star, Becky Lynch, wrestled at an event connected to APW. She used the name Rebecca Knox at the time.
In December 2009, APW started showing its "Gym Wars" events on TV. These taped shows aired on Saturday mornings in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2011, APW teamed up with Vendetta Pro Wrestling. They decided that the Vendetta Pro Tag Team Titles would also be defended in APW. The title was renamed the APW-Vendetta Pro "Unified" Tag Team Championship. This meant the champions would defend their titles at both companies' events.
Roland Alexander, the founder of APW, passed away on November 5, 2013. He was 59 years old and had health issues.
Today, the company is run by Markus Mac, who plans the shows. APW now holds its events at the Bayshore Community Center in Daly City, California. After APW's old training gym closed, a trainer named Jeckles opened his own wrestling school in Hayward.
