Olga Pozzi-Escot was born in Lima, Peru. Her father, Marius Emmanuel Pozzi Escot, was a French professor at a university in Lima. Her mother was Lucía María Zapata Hurtado. Olga lived in Peru for some time before moving to France.
She returned to Peru and studied music at the Academy of Music Sas-Rosay in Lima from 1949 to 1953.
In late 1953, Olga moved to the United States. She attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Three years later, she became a citizen of the United States. From 1954 to 1957, she studied at the famous Juilliard School in New York. She earned degrees in music composition and arts. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in Germany.

Olga Pozzi-Escot is known for her deep thinking about music. She has written several important books. One of her books is called The Poetics of Simple Mathematics in Music. She also co-wrote Sonic Design: The Nature of Sound and Music. These books explore how music and math are connected.
Since 1980, she has been the main editor of a music journal called Sonus. She has written more than thirty articles for this journal. Many of her articles discuss how music and mathematics relate to each other. She believes that math can help us understand how music is built.
