Pradal serey facts for kids
Pradal Serey is an exciting martial art from Cambodia. It is also known as Khmer kickboxing. The Khmer people developed this sport. People use Pradal Serey for self-defense and as a competitive sport. Fighters use their hands, feet, elbows, and knees to attack. They also use a technique called "clinching." This is when fighters grab each other's upper bodies to gain a better position. It helps them set up strong attacks. Sometimes, fighters will grab an opponent's leg to stop a kick.
Pradal Serey Matches
Pradal Serey matches take place in a special boxing ring. Each match has five rounds. Every round lasts for three minutes. Fighters get a two-minute break between each round.
There are different ways to win a match:
- A referee can stop the fight if one fighter cannot continue. This is called a TKO (Technical Knockout).
- A fighter can knock out their opponent, making them unconscious.
- A fighter can win by scoring more points than their opponent.
- If both fighters have the same points, the match is a draw.
Most matches do not last all five rounds. Fighters are not allowed to attack an opponent who is on the ground. They also cannot attack someone who has their back turned.
Before the Fight
Before a match begins, traditional music is played. Both fighters perform a special ritual. This includes a dance and a prayer. It helps them warm up and prepare for the fight. Fighters wear boxing gloves and shorts. They do not wear shoes during the match.
