Prado is a cool barrio (which means neighbourhood or district) and a big public park in Montevideo, Uruguay. It's a really important and beautiful area. Prado and another area called Nueva Savona together form the Prado - Nueva Savona neighbourhood. The name Prado also refers to all the park areas around the Miguelete Creek.

Exploring the Prado Neighbourhood

Prado is known for its lovely streets lined with trees and old, grand houses built in the early 1900s. It's a calm and pretty place to live.

Where is Prado Located?

The Prado neighbourhood is in Montevideo. It shares its borders with several other areas. To the southwest, you'll find Capurro. To the west is La Teja, and to the northwest is Belvedere. North of Prado is Paso de las Duranas, and to the northeast is Aires Puros. You'll find Atahualpa to the east and Bella Vista to the south.

Cool Places in Prado

In the northern part of Prado, you can find some special spots. The Juan Manuel Blanes Museum is located here, which is a great place to see art. Right next to it is the beautiful Japanese Garden, a peaceful place with traditional Japanese design.

The neighbourhood is also a big deal for sports fans! It has three soccer stadiums: José Nasazzi Park, Federico Saroldi Park, and Alfredo V. Viera Park. These are home fields for famous soccer teams like Bella Vista Athletic Club, River Plate Athletic Club, and Montevideo Wanderers.

Besides the stadiums, Prado has many historic buildings. You can see the Carmelitas Church and the impressive Castillo Soneira, along with many other beautiful old villas.

Discovering Prado Park

The park in Prado, called Parque Prado, is a very popular place for people in Montevideo to visit. It's full of fun things to see and do.

What to See in the Park

One of the most famous parts of the park is the Rosedal, which is a huge rose garden. It's filled with many different kinds of roses and smells amazing when they are in bloom. The park also has beautiful fountains and interesting monuments. The Miguelete Creek flows right through the park, adding to its natural beauty.

The Rural del Prado

A special part of the park is the "Rural del Prado." This is a big centre where they hold exhibitions and fairs. It's a place where people can show off different products, animals, and crafts, and it's always busy with events.

Places of Worship in Prado

The Prado neighbourhood is home to many different Christian churches. Some of these include:

  • The Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Thérèse of Lisieux, often called "Iglesia de los Carmelitas."
  • The Church of St. Charles Borromeo and Our Lady of the Assumption.
  • The Armenian Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Bzommar.
  • The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
