Club History
Club Atlético Bella Vista was started on October 4, 1920.
Early Years and International Tours
In 1930, the team went on a big trip. They played games in Chile, Peru, Mexico, USA, Brazil, and Cuba. Their best win on this tour was a 6–0 victory against Atlante.
Playing in the Copa Libertadores
Bella Vista has played in the Copa Libertadores several times. This is a very important football tournament for clubs in South America.
- 1981 and 1985: The club played in the Copa Libertadores in 1981 and 1985. They were in groups with other strong teams, including Peñarol from Uruguay. In both years, they were knocked out in the first round.
- 1990 League Win: In 1990, Bella Vista won the Uruguayan league championship! This big win meant they could play in the Copa Libertadores again the next year.
- 1991 and 1993: In 1991, they played against teams like Nacional (Uruguay), Flamengo, and Corinthians (Brazil). They finished last in their group. In 1993, they were in a group with Nacional again, and two teams from Ecuador. They were eliminated in the first round.
- 1999: Best Performance: After six years, Bella Vista returned to the Copa Libertadores in 1999. They played against Nacional, a Venezuelan team, and a Mexican team. They did very well, finishing third in their group and moving to the next stage. They beat Universidad Católica from Chile. In the quarterfinals, they lost to Deportivo Cali. This was Bella Vista's best performance ever in the Copa Libertadores!
- 2000: In 2000, Bella Vista played in the Copa Libertadores again. They were in a group with teams from Bolivia, Brazil, and Chile. They were eliminated in the first round.
Copa Sudamericana Appearance
In 2011, the club played in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. This is another big South American football tournament. They were eliminated in the first round by Universidad Católica.
