Prahlada was a famous king in ancient Indian stories. He was the son of a powerful king named Hiranyakashipu and his mother was Kayadhu. Prahlada later became the father of Virochana. He is known as a very saintly boy from the Puranas, which are old Hindu religious texts. Prahlada was famous for his deep devotion, called bhakti, to Lord Vishnu.
Who Was Prahlada?
Prahlada is remembered for his strong faith. Even though his father, Hiranyakashipu, hated Lord Vishnu, Prahlada continued to worship Vishnu with all his heart. This made him a special figure in Hindu stories. He is seen as a mahājana, which means a great devotee, by followers of the Vaishnava traditions. These are people who mainly worship Vishnu.
Prahlada's Special Devotion
Prahlada's story is very important to those who worship the avatār Narasimha. Narasimha is a special form of Vishnu, who is half-man and half-lion. Many stories in the Puranas tell about Prahlada's life when he was a young boy. He is often shown as a child in paintings and drawings. Prahlada also taught others about loving worship to Lord Vishnu.
