The Palamós Prawn is a special type of crustacean, which is like a sea insect with a hard shell, similar to a crab or lobster. Its scientific name is Aristeus antennatus. You can also find this exact same prawn in other Spanish towns along the Mediterranean Sea, like Denia, Garrucha, and Huelva. It's easy to spot because of its bright red color. People love it for its delicious, firm, and flavorful meat. Fishermen catch these prawns using a method called bottom trawling, where they drag a large net along the seabed. During the summer, you can usually find more of these prawns, and they tend to be bigger!

For a long time, people have fished for prawns along the coast of Palamós and other towns in Catalonia, like Blanes, Arenys, and Roses. Around the year 1950, fishermen from southern Catalonia and the Valencian Country brought new fishing technology to Palamós. They introduced a method called fish trawling.

This new method helped them discover very important areas where many prawns lived. Since then, the Palamós Prawn has become very important to the local fishing community, known as the Comfraria de Pescadors de Palamós. Today, it is famous and recognized as a special seafood.
