Garrucha is a small town in Spain. It is located in the Almería province, which is part of the Andalusia region. Garrucha is a seaport town right on the Mediterranean Sea.
The town's harbor is very important. It used to be a busy place for trading things like lead, silver, and copper. Today, the main export from the harbor is gypsum. Gypsum is a mineral used to make plaster and drywall. About a million metric tonnes of gypsum are shipped out every year. The harbor also has a small fleet of fishing boats and many spots for leisure boats. An old castle from the 1700s helps protect the harbor.
Population of Garrucha
Garrucha has grown quite a bit over the years. In 1998, about 5,000 people lived there. By 2018, the population had grown to over 8,800 people. The latest numbers from 2020 show that more than 9,500 people call Garrucha home.

Sports in Garrucha
Garrucha has its own local football (soccer) team called P.D. Garrucha. They play in a league within the Almería province. The team's home ground is the Emilio Moldenhauer stadium.
The town offers other sports facilities too. There is a basketball court right by the harbor. You can also find a five-a-side football court. On the town's beaches, there are two volleyball courts. A new gym was also built in early 2015 for everyone to use.

Many people visit Garrucha, both from Spain and other countries. Tourists enjoy the many bars and restaurants along the seafront. These places serve delicious local food. You can often find fresh fish caught right there in Garrucha. They also use fresh produce from nearby farms.
