What is Predelta National Park?
This national park was created on January 13, 1992. It was established by Law Nº 24.063. The park covers an area of 24.58 square kilometers (about 9.5 square miles).
Why was the park created?
The main reason for creating Predelta National Park was to protect an important part of the Paraná River. Specifically, it protects the Upper Delta of the Paraná. This area is part of a larger natural region called the Paraná Delta and Islands Ecoregion. An ecoregion is a large area of land or water that has its own unique plants, animals, and ecosystems.
What makes the Predelta special?
The Predelta is a very interesting place because of how the river behaves there. It's where the sediment (like mud and sand) carried by the Paraná River starts to settle. This settling mud and sand begin to form new islands.
At the same time, the mighty Paraná River itself starts to change. It splits into several large branches and many smaller waterways. This creates a complex network of channels and islands. This unique environment is home to many different kinds of plants and animals.
