Premium Brands Holdings Corporation is a Canadian company that makes and distributes special food products. It is a public company, which means its shares can be bought and sold on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
History of Premium Brands
Premium Brands started a long time ago in 1917. Back then, it was called Fletcher Limited. In 1984, its name changed to Fletcher Fine Foods.
In the year 2000, the company changed its name again to Premium Brands. A few years later, in 2004, they sold off the Fletcher's part of their business.
The company changed how it was set up for a while, becoming an "income trust" in 2005. This helped their sales grow a lot, doubling to $450 million. By 2009, they changed back to being a regular corporation.
In 2010, Premium Brands bought a company called SK Food Group for $42.5 million. SK Food Group made breakfast sandwiches and wraps for places like Starbucks. Because of these new products, Premium Brands' total sales more than doubled between 2010 and 2015, reaching $1.2 billion.
Their sandwich sales kept growing, going from $156.8 million to $460 million by 2016. In the same year, Premium Brands bought a meat company called C&C Packing for up to $146 million.
In April 2018, Premium Brands added Oberto Sausage Company to its group of businesses.
More recently, on November 9, 2020, Premium Brands teamed up with a group of Miꞌkmaq First Nations to buy Clearwater Seafoods. This big purchase cost $1 billion. It was a very important deal because it was the largest investment in the seafood industry by a Canadian Indigenous group.
