The president of the Government of New Caledonia is a very important leader. This job was created in 1999. It came about after an important agreement. This agreement was called the Nouméa Accord. It was signed in 1998.
New Caledonia has a special kind of government. It is called a collegial government. This means it has 11 members working together. These members are chosen by the Congress of New Caledonia. They are elected using a fair system. This system makes sure different political groups are represented. After they are chosen, the 11 members then pick the President. They also choose the Vice President from among themselves.
