The President of the Government of New Caledonia is an important political leader. This role was created in 1999, after an agreement called the Nouméa Accord was signed in 1998.
New Caledonia has a special way of governing. Its government has 11 members. These members are chosen by the Congress of New Caledonia. They are picked based on how many votes their political parties get. After the 11 members are chosen, they then vote among themselves to pick the President and the Vice President.
