Prešov is a cool city in eastern Slovakia. It's the third-largest city in the country, with about 91,000 people living there. It has a long history and lots of interesting places to explore!
Where is Prešov Located?
Prešov is in a beautiful valley by the Torysa River. This area is part of the historical Šariš region. The city is about 33 kilometers (around 20 miles) north of another big city called Košice. You can easily get between them using the D1 motorway.
A Quick Look at Prešov's History
People have lived in the area around Prešov for a very long time, even since the Stone Age! The city itself was first mentioned in official records in the year 1247.
Later, in 1374, Prešov became a "free royal town." This meant it had special rights and freedoms given by the king, which helped it grow and become important.
Salt mining became a big deal here in the 1500s. There was a town nearby called Solivar, which is now part of Prešov, where they mined a lot of salt.
