The Prime Minister of Dominica is the main leader of the government in the Commonwealth of Dominica. This important job was officially created on November 3, 1978. This was the day Dominica became an independent country, no longer ruled by the United Kingdom. Before this, the leader was called the Premier.
The current Prime Minister is Roosevelt Skerrit. He started his job on January 8, 2004.

The President of Dominica chooses the Prime Minister. The person chosen must be an elected member of the House of Assembly. This person should also have the support of most of the other elected members. This means they are popular with the people's representatives.
