Once elected, the prime minister forms a special group called the Cabinet. This group includes the prime minister and three other members from the Assembly. They work together to make important decisions for the country.
Sir Robert Rex was a very important leader. He was re-elected many times from 1974, when Niue became a self-governing nation, until he passed away in 1992.

Understanding Niue's Leader
Who is the Prime Minister?
The Prime Minister is the head of government for Niue. This means they are in charge of running the country day-to-day. They lead the government and make sure laws are followed. They also represent Niue to other countries.
How the Prime Minister is Chosen
The people of Niue elect members to the Niue Assembly. These elected members then vote among themselves to choose who will be the prime minister.
