The Story of Princes Gate Water
How It All Started
Princes Gate water began in August 1991. Two brothers, David and Glyn Jones, started bottling spring water. They did this on their farm in Princes Gate, Pembrokeshire. They wanted to try a new business idea. This was because of new rules about how much milk farmers could produce.
At first, their bottling machine was very small. It could only fill 36 bottles each day. But they kept working hard and made their business bigger. Soon, they were using most of the buildings on their farm for bottling water.
Growing the Business
As the company grew, they needed more space. In 2004, they opened a special new bottling factory. Then, in 2007, they added a super-fast bottling line. This new line could fill 22,000 bottles every hour!
To keep up with demand, they added a second production line. This line could bottle another 8,000 bottles per hour. By 2013, Princes Gate was producing 60 million bottles of water each year.
Caring for the Planet
Princes Gate cares about the environment. The company has taken steps to be more eco-friendly. In 2013, Princes Gate had 60 employees.
They built facilities to make their own bottles right at the factory. This helps save fuel because they don't need to transport empty bottles. They also put solar panels on the factory roof. These panels use sunlight to create electricity.
The company also built a large wind turbine nearby. This turbine uses wind power to supply electricity to their bottling plant.
A New Chapter
In 2018, a big food and drink company called Nestlé bought most of Princes Gate. Princes Gate is now one of the largest bottled water producers in the UK.
