Princes Gate Spring Water is a popular brand of bottled water from Wales. You can find it sold all over the United Kingdom. This water comes from a special spring near a small village called Princes Gate. This village is close to Narberth in Pembrokeshire, which is in southwest Wales. Today, the company is owned by Nestlé.
The Story of Princes Gate Water
Princes Gate Spring Water started in August 1991. Two brothers, David and Glyn Jones, began bottling water. They did this on their farm in Princes Gate, Pembrokeshire. They wanted to try a new business idea. This was because of new rules about how much milk farmers could produce.
Growing the Business
At first, their bottling machine was very small. It could only fill 36 bottles each day. But the business grew quickly. Soon, they were using most of the farm buildings for bottling. In 2004, they opened a special new bottling factory.
Later, in 2007, they added a super-fast bottling line. This new line could fill 22,000 bottles every hour! They also added another production line. This one could bottle 8,000 more bottles per hour. By 2013, the company was making 60 million bottles of water each year.
Caring for the Planet
Princes Gate also works to be kind to the environment. They built facilities to make their own bottles right at the factory. This helps them save money on transport. It also means fewer trucks on the road. They also put solar panels on their factory roof. These panels use sunlight to make electricity.
The company also built a large wind turbine. This turbine helps power their bottling plant. It is located near Ludchurch. These steps show their commitment to being eco-friendly.
New Ownership
In 2018, a big company called Nestlé bought most of Princes Gate. Princes Gate was the eighth-largest bottled water producer in the UK. This purchase meant Princes Gate joined a larger family of brands.
