Marie Sophie Hélène Béatrice of France (born July 9, 1786 – died June 19, 1787) was a French princess. She was born at the grand Palace of Versailles in France. Sophie was the youngest of the four children of King Louis XVI of France and his wife, Marie Antoinette.

Sophie was named after her great-aunt, Princess Sophie of France. As a daughter of the king, she was known as Madame Sophie. She was a very important member of the royal family.

Early Life and Health

Sophie was a large baby when she was born. However, her health was not very strong. She suffered from a sickness called tuberculosis. This made her quite weak.

Death and Family Grief

Princess Sophie passed away in Versailles when she was only eleven months old. She had been sick for about five or six days. Her death was caused by problems from teething, which means new teeth were growing in.

Her parents, King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette, were very sad. They loved their youngest child deeply. Marie Antoinette was especially heartbroken. She said that Sophie "would have been my friend," showing how much she missed her.

Sophie was buried in the Royal Basilica of Saint Denis. This important church is located north of Paris. Many French kings and queens are buried there.
