Proussy facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Proussy was a small town, also known as a commune, located in the northwest of France. It was part of the region called Basse-Normandie and the department named Calvados.

In 2006, Proussy had around 400 people living there. On January 1, 2016, Proussy joined with other nearby towns to form a new, larger commune called Condé-en-Normandie. This means Proussy is no longer a separate commune on its own.

What is a Commune?

A commune in France is like a local government area, similar to a township or a small municipality in other countries. It's the smallest administrative division in France. Each commune has its own mayor and local council that manage things like local services, schools, and roads.

Why Do Communes Merge?

Sometimes, smaller communes like Proussy decide to merge with their neighbors. This often happens to help them work together more efficiently. By combining, they can share resources, save money, and provide better services for all the people living in the new, larger area. It can also give them more power when dealing with regional or national governments.

Where Was Proussy Located?

Proussy was situated in the Calvados department, which is known for its beautiful countryside and apple orchards. The Calvados department is part of the Normandy region, famous for its history, including the D-Day landings during World War II.
