Provost John Ross was an important leader in Aberdeen, Scotland. He served as the city's Lord Provost from 1710 to 1712. A Lord Provost is like a mayor or head of the city council. Today, he is mostly remembered for the historic house he lived in during the 18th century. He moved into this house in 1702.
Provost Ross's Historic House
Provost Ross's house was built way back in 1593. This makes it the second oldest house in Aberdeen! Only Provost Skene's House is older.
The house is located on a street called Shiprow. It's a very special building. Today, it is home to the Aberdeen Maritime Museum. This museum moved into the house in 1984. The National Trust for Scotland owns the house. It was carefully fixed up in the 1950s and reopened to the public in 1954.
