The Prunus brachybotrya tree is mostly found in southeastern Mexico. It grows especially well in a state called Chiapas. These trees like to live in special places called cloud forests. These forests are usually found high up in mountains, where clouds often cover the trees. The Prunus brachybotrya grows at elevations between 1,200 and 2,400 meters (about 3,900 to 7,900 feet) above sea level.
How People Use the Tree
The wood from the Prunus brachybotrya tree is a pretty reddish-brown color. It is good for woodturning, which is a way of shaping wood using a special machine. People can make bowls, furniture parts, and other cool things from it.
The Tarahumara people, who live in Mexico, have found many uses for this tree. The leaves of the Prunus brachybotrya have a strong smell, a bit like almonds. This smell comes from a natural chemical. The Tarahumara use the leaves in different ways:
