Prunus sect. Microcerasus is a special group of plants within the larger Prunus family. Think of it like a specific team within a big sports club! These plants are often called bush cherries or dwarf cherries because they are usually small, bushy plants rather than tall trees.

This group used to be considered part of another Prunus subgroup called Cerasus. However, scientists have studied their DNA and found that they are actually more closely related to Prunus subgenus Prunus. One way to tell them apart is by looking at their winter buds. Microcerasus plants have three tiny buds where a leaf meets the stem, while Cerasus plants have only one.
